Yoga and Pilates certifications required in Singapore

Posted by yeow | Pilates and Yoga | Monday 6 July 2009 3:20 pm

I was curious as to the certifications required to teach in the community centers and studios, and whether they are the same.

Understand from MOH that “MOH does not regulate or issue license for such service”.

PA mentioned that “we will require them to achieve the relevant instructor certificates plus have relevant teaching experience”.  I called in and was told most teachers are from the studios too, just that PA is not for profit, hence much cheaper.

I think the CCs offer simple exercise rooms.  Also CCs offer basic/intermediate and mainly Hatha yoga, while the studios offer more advanced and different schools of yoga (e.g. those with yoga flow).  For pilates, i guess only the pilates studios will be able to provide the complex equipment like reformer etc.

Private/Corporate classes also are only available in centers and studios.

Centers teaching instructor courses can be seen in this post.  Also i learnt there is this One Yoga Group, where you will find this Yoga Alliance where you can check for registered teachers and centers with them too.

So to conclude, i think CCs are good for a starting point as they will most likely be a center nearer your house, while thereafter you can go to studios after you are off your cooling period and is really interested in yoga/pilates to carry on?  Here is a map to help you find a studio too.
